Donating books to the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
In a brief and simple ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Abdullah Faiz Zain donated several books to the Rector Pedro Pablo Rosso of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile for its library on 2nd August 2007.
The titles include Malaysia Celebrating 50 years of Nationhood; Malaysia; The Royal Belum; Datai Bay; Encyclopedia of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad (which contains a collection of his speeches Vol. 1-10), Globalisation and the New Realities; Malaysian Customs & Etiquette and The Nyonya Kebaya.
Also present during the ceremony were Gen. Emilio Cheyre, Director of the University's International Studies Institute and former Head of Chilean Armed (Forces), Mrs. Maria Luisa Arenas Franco, Librarian and some members of the University.
In his brief speech, H.E. Ambassador Faiz, amongst others, expressed his earnest hopes that these books will benefit immensely the University students in broadening and enhancing their knowledge on Malaysia, its people, culture, custom, history and leaders. The books are a modest contribution from the Malaysian Government towards this goal.
Pontifical Catholic University of Chile is one of Chile's oldest universities and one of the most prestigious institutions in Latin America along with the University of Chile. It has about 2,000 foreign students in a population of 20,000.
The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile was founded on June 21, 1888, to offer training in traditional professions and in technological and practical fields such as business, accounting, chemistry, and engineering. It was granted full academic autonomy by the Chilean government in 1931. It is a private (but with some public support), urban, multi-campus university.
The University will celebrate its 200 Anniversary of its founding next year.
