Post Graduate Studies in University Malaya
Ms. Daniela Ramirez, 28 years old, has been selected by the Government of Malaysia to pursue her post-graduate studies in Sustainable Environment at University of Malaya from year 2008 to 2009.
Ms. Ramirez, an engineer by profession, is currently working with a private engineering consulting firm specializing in environmental management, quality control management system ISO 9000, as well as safety and health occupational system. She is also an Associate Professor at the University of Chile, teaching a course on Environmental Management for undergraduate studies.
Ms. Ramirez paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Abdullah Faiz Zain at his office on 26 December 2007. She expressed her gratitude to the Embassy for the kind support of her application and appreciation to University of Malaya for receiving her. She is the first Chilean recipient of the award offered by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to participate in a postgraduate course under MTCP Programme.
With her acceptance to the post-graduate programme, she hopes to extend and strengthen her academic knowledge in environment management, to contribute with innovative ideas in her return to Chile, able to enter the field of public environmental management and to develop an active position regarding the Chilean environmental contact.
When asked why she has chosen Malaysia, Ms. Ramirez replied that she is very attracted to Asian culture. In addition, as Malaysia and Chile is negotiating an FTA, she hopes to study its implications on the environmental cooperation between the two countries.
This is Ms. Ramirez?s first visit to Malaysia and she is looking forward to starting a new chapter of her life in a new country at a new beginning of year 2008.
