The Merdeka or the National Day of Malaysia Celebration was held at the Embassy of Malaysia, 3461 Callao Las Condes today (Tuesday, 30/8/2016). The event which saw more than 150 guests attended was packed with various programmes packed for the audiences of the event including Silat performance, singing the anak Kecil main api and Tanggal 31 songs, guitar performance on Negaraku, the singing of the chilean himno by students of San Jose Maipu High School, recital of a merdeka poem in Spanish by Dr Rameez and lastly the cutting of the Pulut Kuning and National Day Cake.
Among VVIPs attended were Marcos Quintanilla whom is the Vice President De Consejes De Chile, Don Claudio Segovia (Mayor of Graneros), Don Julio Palestno (Mayor of San Miguel), Amb Gloria Nevarantee (Chief Of Protocol), and Mr Manuel(President of Chilean Malaysian Business Council). The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Nuncio as well as many Ambassadors with residence in Chile attended the event too.
Guests were also served with varieties of Malaysian Delicacies such as satay, nasi Impit Kuah Kacang, lontong, nasi Briyani kambing kuzi, Mertabak, Mee Hoon goreng, spring roll, dosa, kambing panggang, rendang ayam, sirap bandung, Teh tarik, kuih pelita, kuih lopeh, karipap!
It was a great effort in promoting Malaysia and its culture, performance and food as to project a better and positive image of Malaysia to Chileans. In fact many of them were interested to know more about Malaysian Silat.
The event which started at 4 pm ended by 7 pm and was held by the Embassy with the support of Matrade and friends of Malaysia in Chile. This too after an hiatus of 3-4 years!
