Monday, Aug 31st this year, will mark the 50th anniversary of Rukun Negara.
The Rukunegara (National Principles) is the Malaysian declaration of national philosophy instituted by royal proclamation on Merdeka Day , 1970, in reaction to a serious race riot known as the 13th May Incident, which occurred in 1969. The 50th anniversary celebration of the Rukun Negara is also in conjunction with this year's annual Merdeka Month to celebrate the National Day on August 31st and Malaysia Day on September 16th .
One of the methods used to encourage unity is the Rukunegara. Rukun Negara is the five pillars that act as the key to harmony and unity for the success and stability of Malaysia. Rukun Negara has brought impact to our unity among the races and strengthens the bond that entwined from way back. The five principles of the Rukun Negara are Belief in God, Loyalty to the King and Country, Supremacy of the Constitution, The Rule of Law, and Courtesy and Morality.
They are the philosophies that were closely knitted to ensure that the people can accept and understand that the diversity of races, religion and beliefs that exist in the country is something special and unique that must always be preserved
The formulation of the principles of the Rukun Negara was the efforts of the National Consultative Council (Majlis Perundingan Negara or MAPEN), headed by Tun Abdul Razak.
