Monday, 16 May 2022 - 香港金融管理局 Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) Deputy Chief Executive Mr Edmond Lau and Consul-General Yap Wei Sin had a fruitful meeting at the HKMA at the IFC, Central. They noted the strong financial market and economic collaboration between Malaysia and Hong Kong, especially between Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and HKMA.
They discussed potential Malaysia-Hong Kong cooperation, particularly in the field of Islamic Finance, such as the Sukuk market and human capital development. DCE Lau and CG Yap also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest such as current trends in the appetite for Islamic Finance products, and relevant development of regulatory frameworks conducive to Islamic Finance.
BNM and HKMA signed an MOU on the establishment of a large-value payment-system link in 2005, and an MOU on co-operation in the development of the financial services industry in 2009. The 1st Meeting of the Joint Forum on Islamic Finance between Malaysia and Hong Kong was held in 2013, while the 1st BNM-HKMA Joint Conference on Islamic Finance was held in 2014.
