On 27 November 2023, the Royal Malaysian Navy Patrol Vessel, KD Selangor (F176) led by Captain Ahmad Rashidi Othman concluded its visit at the Stonecutters Island Naval Base in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China. This marked the first time a Malaysian Navy Vessel had visited Hong Kong since 1997, which was at the invitation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
During the visit on 24-27 November 2023, the Royal Malaysian Navy delegation visited the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Exhibition Center and participated in various goodwill activities, including a friendly soccer game with their host.
Mr. Muzambli Markam, Consul General of Malaysia in Hong Kong along with representatives from the People's Liberation Army (Hong Kong Garrison), Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in Hong Kong, and the Government of Hong Kong were present during the arrival and departure ceremonies of KD Selangor.
During the goodwill port call, Captain Rashidi and crew also took time to visit the Consulate General of Malaysia and were hosted at Rumah Malaysia. At the same time, members of the Consulate General were given the opportunity to tour the vessel and also feted to an official luncheon onboard of KD Selangor.
This visit underscores the commitment between Malaysia and China to promote mutual trust and friendly relations between the two countries.
