Malaysians traveling or residing abroad are advised to remain vigilant and stay informed about the local security and health situation. As a general guideline, Malaysians should:
- Secure travel documents and keep them safe at all times.
- Monitor local news and official authorities for updates on safety and security.
- Prioritize personal health and maintain excellent personal hygiene. Kindly seek immediate medical attention if you feel unwell.
- Avoid unsafe areas, including political demonstrations or large spontaneous gatherings.
- Never accept or carry items belonging to strangers, especially at transit points or borders.
- Obey all local laws and regulations of the host country.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION
i. What do I/Malaysian do in case of emergency when I am in Hong Kong/Macao?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia will respond to an emergency situation that has the potential to endanger the safety or lives of Malaysian citizen abroad i.e. natural disaster, civil unrest or war. In such case, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Hong Kong will assist you. Therefore, it is important that you register with the Consulate General of Malaysia, Hong Kong so that we are aware of your presence and whereabouts via the Registration of Malaysians Abroad in the e-Konsular System (https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my/login).
ii. What happen in the case of death in Hong Kong/Macao?
In the event of the death of a Malaysian citizen overseas, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Hong Kong provides consular assistance to facilitate the repatriation of remains from Hong Kong or Macau to Malaysia. This support is strictly limited to official consular matters. The Consulate does not manage private logistical arrangements, including the sourcing or appointment of funeral directors and repatriation agents. Furthermore, any financial costs incurred during this process must be borne entirely by the next of kin.
