Following the announcement of YAB Perdana Menteri to instil the spirit of One Malaysia, Malaysians of all races from all over Spain have gathered at Rumah Malaysia in Madrid for Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration on 20 September 2009.  The buffet luncheon, hosted by Malaysian Ambassador to Spain, Dato’ Naimun Ashakli Mohammad was aimed to cultivate a sense of unity in diversity among Malaysia’s heterogeneous society abroad under the spirit of One Malaysia.

The joyous occasion started at noon with an array of flavourful Malaysian cuisines prepared from scratch by the Ambassador himself with assistance from his family members, fellow officers and embassy staff.  Among those served were nasi lemak, roti jala with chicken curry, nasi impit with kuah kacang, grilled chicken, noodles, Malaysian kuih-muih and sweetmeats as well as freshly cut fruits.

The successful gathering has shown that Malaysians of all ethnic backgrounds and walks of life are kept together by the spirit of One Malaysia.  The event was attended by approximately 100 Malaysians living in Spain.  Among them were business people, students and course participants, TLDM officers in Cartegena working for the Malaysian Submarine as well as those who married the locals and have naturalized in Spain.  The event has served as an avenue for the Embassy to maintain its warm and cordial relations with Malaysians in Spain as well as for them to interact with each other.
