Earlier this month the state of Negeri Sembilan celebrated the Birthday of the Sultan of Negeri Sembilan (14 January). The Embassy of Malaysia in Helsinki, Finland takes this opportunity to wish His Royal Highness Sultan Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir a blessed birthday and many more prosperous years to come.
Fun facts:
i) Negeri Sembilan is a Malaysian state on the Malay Peninsula's southwest coast, known for its beaches, nature parks and palaces.
ii) The name is believed to derive from the nine (sembilan) villages or nagari in the Minangkabau language (now known as luak) settled by the Minangkabau, a people originally from West Sumatra (in present-day Indonesia). Minangkabau features are still visible today in traditional architecture and the dialect of Malay spoken.
iii) Unlike the hereditary monarchs of the other royal Malay states, the ruler of Negeri Sembilan is elected and is known as Yang di-Pertuan Besar instead of Sultan.
iv) Though Negeri Sembilan as a small state may not be as known as a tourist area, compared to Melaka or Penang, but it still offers visitors many must-see attractions and interesting things to do whether it is Port Dickson Beaches, recreational forests, or Ostrich farm, and impressive natural landscapes and beaches.
