Malaysia extends its deep appreciation to Foreign Minister Baiba Braže and the Latvian government for the celebration in honor of the 104th anniversary of the de jure recognition of the Republic of Latvia. It was a privilege to take part in this meaningful occasion, which reflects the warm ties between our nations.
The reception hosted by Her Excellency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, was attended by the President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister, as well as members of the diplomatic corps in Latvia and representatives from accredited countries to the Baltic state.
In her welcoming speech, FM Braže highlighted the crucial role of diplomats in bridging nations and fostering cooperation and expressed gratitude to the foreign embassies present for their collaboration, particularly in addressing pressing global issues such as the Russia-Ukraine War and peace and security, linking to Latvia's candidacy for the UNSC (2026-2027).
During his meeting with FM Braže, CDA Ariff Ali took the opportunity to underscore significant milestones in bilateral relations, including the 30th anniversary of our diplomatic ties in 2023, our ASEAN Helsinki Committee Chairmanship in 2024, and Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025. They also exchanged views on Latvia’s UNSC bid, drawing insights from Malaysia’s experience during its 2015-2016 term. FM Braže reaffirmed Latvia’s appreciation for Malaysia’s steadfast support.
In addition, the CDA had the pleasure of meeting and catching up with the Ambassador of Latvia to Finland, as well as counterparts who previously worked in Finland, who were also in attendance for the Ambassador’s Conference.
We look forward to continuing to deepen our partnership and strengthening Malaysia-Latvia relations in the years ahead.
