Visitors at Matka 2024 this year were transported to the rainforest with traditional dance and musical instruments and crafts from Sarawak. Traditional cultural performances were performed by members of Orang Ulu ethnic group, and visitors got to admire the sounds of the traditional "sape", Borneo-origin string instrument.
Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia, located in east Malaysia on the island of Borneo. Matka showcased the colourful cultural heritage and natural diversity of Sarawak, home to 27 ethnic groups, speaking 45 languages and dialects, and each with their own stories, colorful cultures, traditions, and beliefs. Besides cultures and tradition, Sarawak is marked by unmatched biodiversity, breath-taking nature and opportunities for adventures such as jungle trekking, adventure caving, mountain and rock climbing as well as river activities, diving, watersports, fishing, jet skiing and yachting. The latest product highlighted was the Sarawak Delta Geopark.
The Malaysian Embassy Helsinki joined forces with team Malaysia at Matka in introducing our beautiful country to Nordic audiences.
