Seminar on Peatland Subsidence and Visit to the Natural Resources Institute, Finland
15 May 2017, Helsinki - H.E. Dato' Blanche Olbery Ambassador of Malaysia to Finland, Dr. Kalanithi Nesaretnam, Minister, Embassy of Malaysia in Brussels / Malaysian Palm Oil Board MPOB, and Embassy officers visited the Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE) in Viikki, Helsinki on 15 May. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the peatland habitat in Finland and the differences compared to the peatland in Malaysia.
The visit included a seminar together with the University of Helsinki concerning agricultural land (peatland) subsidence and possible solutions from top experts at the Viikki campus. After the seminar, the group visited a pristine mire as an example of the peatland natural environment in Finland.?
