The Embassy of Malaysia in Helsinki participated in the Crisis Management NOW event organised by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, marking 70 years of Finland’s contribution to international crisis management and peacebuilding.
In her opening speech, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen, referred to Finland’s reputation as a “crisis management superpower,” reflecting its consistent, values-based engagement and contributions beyond its size. She highlighted Finland’s comprehensive approach to peacebuilding, addressing root causes of conflict while promoting inclusivity, equality, and long-term sustainability.
The Embassy also followed the panel discussion “Seventy Years of Crisis Management: Lessons from a Changing World”, which reflected on how crisis management has evolved from traditional peacekeeping towards more integrated civilian–military cooperation. Speakers highlighted the growing complexity of conflicts, including hybrid threats and disinformation, and the importance of stronger coordination, rule of law, and practical responses rooted in local needs and long-term resilience.
