HE Datin Seri Blanche Olbery, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Finland, visited the headquarters of Neste Oil on Thursday, 14 November 2013 and met with Mr. Simo Honkanen, Senior Vice President to HSEQ and Sustainability and Mr. OsmoKammonen, Senior Vice President to Communication, Marketing and Public Affairs of Neste Oil.
Neste Oil was founded in 1948 to secure Finland’s oil supply and since then has become one of the important players in the country’s industry. Between 20007-2011, Neste Oil increased its investments in Porvoo (Finland), Rotterdam (the Netherlands), and Singapore. It is now the world’s leading producer of renewable diesel today and one of the world’s leading base oil producers. Currently, Neste Oil has the refining capacity of 15 million tons per annum of petroleum products and 2 million tons per annum of renewable diesel with Net Sales of €17.9 billion in 2012. Neste Oil operates in fifteen countries and employs approximately 5,000 people. The largest owner of Neste Oil is the Finnish state with 50.1% shares.
During the meeting, Neste Oil re-emphasizes its commitment to sustainable environment, as Malaysia is one of the suppliers for its refinery in Singapore and also their commitment to assist the small holders producers of oil palm. Their cooperation with this group has improved the livelihood of the local population, while at the same time preserving the sustainability of the environment.
It was also learnt that Neste Oil has provided to the Borneo Child Aid Society over a number of years and 265 Malaysian children have receive education every year. The Borneo Child Aid is a nonprofit NGO that provides education to children of families working on oil palm plantations or living in other remote areas.
