27 April 2016 - HE Dato’ Blanche Olbery, Ambassador of Malaysia and accompanied by Puan Roslina Othman, Director of the Malaysian Investment Development Agency (MIDA) and Embassy officials, visited the site of Kotkamills located in Kotka, 132 km east of Helsinki. HE Dato’ Ambassador and delegation was received by Mr. Markku Hämäläinen, Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Ville Seppälä, Director, Imprex Business Line.
“The history of Kotkamills Oy started when Hans Gutzeit from Norway founded Finland’s most modern steam-powered sawmill on Kotkansaari island in 1872. At the time of its inauguration on 16 November 1872, the ‘Norwegian sawmill’, as it was called, employed 60 people, most of whom came from Norway. The mill brought a Norwegian colony of around 250 people to Kotka, at the time a town of just 800 inhabitants. Fast forwarded to 2015, New Finnish owner from March 2015 onwards, majority owner MB Funds. Over EUR 100 million investment in converting printing paper machine to produce high-quality folding boxboard and barrier board, to be completed in summer 2016.”

During the one-hour visit, Mr. Hämäläinen gave a presentation on Kotkamills background, business activities and future business development, while Mr. Seppälä spoke on Kotkamills subsidiary in Malaysia, L.P. Pacific Films Sdn. Bhd. It was highlighted also that Kotkamills is going through a major transformation in terms of technology application beginning this year.
