Education dialogues between Malaysia and Finland in the sphere of teacher training continue. Following a study visit to Oulu University Teacher Training School, representatives from Yayasan Khazanah foundation, Dr Nur Anuar Abdul Muthalib, Chief Education Officer and Mr. Mohammad Syazwi bin Mohd Rafaee, Senior Executive, Programme Coordination Department (Scholarship) accompanied by Ms Kaisa Marjamaa, Senior Lecturer from Oulu University Teacher Training School and the Malaysian Embassy Helsinki, were briefed in Helsinki by officials at the Ministry of Education - Opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriö and the Finnish National Agency of Education - Opetushallitus - Utbildningsstyrelsen. Themes covered included digitalisation, early childhood education and the cornerstones of the Finnish system.
Equality, trust, localised education solutions, play-based early childhood education, and connection to nature are some of the notable characteristics of the Finnish education ethos. Organising education sustainably with limited funds and resources, adapting to a digitalising world, well-being of teachers, and awareness of mental health are global challenges. Discussions and exchanges around these themes contribute towards future solutions for extending the reach of education in our societies and a better world for us all.
