LONDON August 8, 2011: Today marked the 44th year of the establishment of ASEAN. The ASEAN Declaration was signed in Bangkok, Thailand by its founding members, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined in 1984, Vietnam in 1995, while Laos and Myanmar joined in 1997 and finally Cambodia in 1999 making up what is today the 10 Member States of ASEAN.

    In conjunction with this historic day, the ASEAN London Committee (ALC) have agreed to fly the ASEAN flag on all of the Member States' mission to the United Kingdom. As head of the ALC working group, the High Commission of Malaysia in London have hosted a flag raising ceremony at the High Commision in Belgrave Square to mark the occasion. The unveiling of the ASEAN flag were witnessed by all of the Heads of ASEAN States mission to the United Kingdom. ASEAN flag would now be flown permanently beside the national flags of all ASEAN Member States at all ASEAN National Secretariats, diplomatic and consular missions in Members States and Dialogue Partners including in all Member States in the European Union and at the Member States' missions at the United Nations Offices.
