King presents appointment letters to five new envoys

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, presented the instruments of appointment to five Malaysian envoys at Istana Negara yesterday.

   The envoys are Ambassador to France Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Zainal, 58; High Commissioner to Britain Datuk Zakaria Sulong, 57; Ambassador to Switzerland Datuk Ho May Yong, 52; Ambassador to Austria Datuk Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, 48, and Ambassador to Syria Mat Dris Yaakob, 50. Dr Abdul Aziz is a former chief of defence forces.

   This is Zakaria’s second posting to London in a diplomatic service career spanning 35 years. He was Aambassador to Bosnia-Her-zegovina and to Germany prior to the latest appointment.

   Ho, who has been with the Foreign Ministry since 1984, has served as the Consul-General in Perth, Australia, and as a special functions officer to the Prime Minister. Muhammad Shahrul Ikram has been the Ambassador to Qatar and in February was elected chairman of the board of governors at the International Atomic Energy Agency for the term of 2009 to 2010. Mat Dris has served as the Consul-General in Vancouver, Canada, and as an embassy adviser in Oman. – Bernama
