RECEPTION AND EID CELEBRATION WITH APPG FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Reception & Eid Celebration in Collaboration with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Foreign Affairs | 29 April 2025

Held at the High Commission of Malaysia, the celebration brought together UK parliamentarians of both House of Lords and House of Commons, diplomats, business leaders and think tanks to honour close ties between Malaysia and the UK and celebrate ‘Eid.

The evening featured welcoming remarks from the APPG Chair Mr. Adam Jogee MP and a keynote address by H.E. Dato’ Zakri Jaafar, High Commissioner of Malaysia.

In his address, the High Commissioner welcomed the collaboration with the APPG and spoke on the strength and breadth of Malaysia–UK relations. He highlighted the nation’s GBP19 billion investment, and reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to expanding cooperation across trade, renewable energy, and education, including through frameworks such as the CPTPP. He also highlighted Malaysia’s commitment and roles as the Chair of ASEAN 2025 in furthering the interests of the Association and people of the region.

Among the distinguished guests were APPG Vice Chairs Baroness Mobarik, Mr. David Reed MP, and Ms. Naz Shah MP, as well as Ms. Mei Sim and Sir Edward Leigh MP, longest serving MP, who now serve as Chair of the APPG for Malaysia - in recognition of their continued efforts to strengthen UK–Malaysia ties.

Guests enjoyed Malaysian cultural delicacies and a video presentation on “ASEAN 2025”, reflecting the region’s shared aspirations for a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year.
