STATEMENT BY H.E THE HIGH COMMISSIONER OF MALAYSIA TO THE UK

 H.E. Dato’ Sri Zakaria Sulong, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the United Kingdom, said today:

"As part of on-going efforts to strengthen ties between Malaysia and the UK, Prime Minister Najib Razak will make a working visit to London next week.

"Amongst other events in London, the Malaysian High Commission has invited all Malaysians in the UK to attend an evening with the Prime Minister on 14 May. In the interests of accountability and democratic engagement, the Government believes it is important to afford Malaysians in the UK the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister during his visit.

"Contrary to some reports, the High Commission has not hired the entire O2 Arena for this event. The O2 Arena is a large venue with a variety of function rooms and halls. The modestly sized IndigO2 side hall has been booked for Monday's event.

"The High Commission has been working with corporate partners and friends of Malaysia to facilitate sponsorship of the event and cover costs, thereby minimising any costs to the Government."
