LONDON MAY 4: Primary Industries Minister YB Teresa Kok held a dialogue session and engaged with Malaysian diaspora at the Malaysian High Commission in London as her first stop in a palm oil economic and promotion mission to London, Brussels, Berlin and Rome. Her delegation included officials from the ministry, Malaysian Palm Oil Board and Malaysian Palm Oil Council. Several Malaysians living in and around London attended the event which included many activities held under the Love MY Palm Oil campaign initiated by the Ministry. YB Teresa took the opportunity to inform Malaysians about the campaign’s objective to increase awareness on the importance of the palm oil industry to the country’s economy, its versatility, functional and health benefits as well as Malaysia’s stand on the European Union’s move to ban palm oil through the Delegated Act under the Renewable Energy Directive II. Through this, it is hoped that Malaysians overseas could become ambassadors for Malaysian palm oil and do their part to dispel the wrong accusations against the country’s golden crop brought about by anti-palm oil campaigns in Europe. YB Teresa also highlighted the policy changes undertaken by the Government to balance commodity development and the environment including for the sustainable cultivation of oil palm. After the session, the Malaysians took part in fun activities including a cooking demo using palm oil, colouring contest for children and a Sawit Funride which was flagged off by the Minister. During the flag-off, she also pasted the Love MY Palm Oil campaign stickers on the High Commission’s official vehicles.
