6. DEMISE OF A MALAYSIAN CITIZEN OVERSEAS: REGISTRATION OF DEATH / REPATRIATION OF HUMAN REMAINS

1. General Information

In the event of the death of a Malaysian citizen overseas, the following procedures must be observed. These rules may also apply to both Malaysian and Non-Malaysian.

ii. The High Commission of Malaysia will assist the family of the deceased in surrendering relevant documents and verifying the death for registration purposes at the National Registration Department Malaysia (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara, Malaysia).

2. Please bring the original and three (3) photocopies of the following documents (unless otherwise stated). All photocopies must be made on A4-sized paper.

a) UK Death Certificate duly legalised by the UK FCDO (One (1) original only)

b) Embalming / Cremation Certificate.

c) Passport of the deceased.

d) Malaysian Identity Card (MyKad) of the deceased.

e) Valid Passport of a family member accompanying the deceased.

f) Flight details (if applicable).

g) Complete two (2) copies of First Information Report (FIR) Form.

3. Fees :

 £5.00 — Per legalisation.

4. Processing Time:

i. At least three (4) weeks after submission of complete documents.

ii. Please provide A4 prepaid self-addressed envelope with full name as per passport with complete UK residential address.

9. RENUNCIATION / TERMINATION OF MALAYSIAN CITIZEN

1. General Information

As per Articles 23 and 24 of the Federal Constitution, Malaysia citizens over 21 years who acquire another national must renounce their Malaysian citizenship.

2. Applicant must be present at the High Commission to complete Form K and provide thumbprint. All photocopies must be made on A4-sized paper.

3. Applicant's Documents:

a. Three (3) recent passport photos (white background).

b. Original and three (3) photocopies of MyKad (photocopies of the front and back must be made on the same page).

c. Original and three (3) photocopies of the page containing personal details in the current and previous Malaysian passport.

d. Original and three (3) photocopies of the Malaysian Birth Certification/ Citizenship Certificate (if available).

e. Citizenship certificate/ Naturalisation certificate and foreign passport.

•   UK-issued documents must be notarised by a UK Notary Public and subsequently legalised by the UK FCDO.
•   Certificates issued outside the UK in a language other than English or Malay must be translated into English, notarised by a UK Public Notary and subsequently legalised by the UK FCDO.

Notes:

•   A copy of any non-Malaysian document must be notarised by a UK Notary Public and subsequently legalised by the UK FCDO.
•   Documents not originally in English or Malay must be translated into English. Copy of the original document and the translation must be notarised by a UK Notary Public and subsequently legalised by the UK FCDO.
•   If legalisation cannot be completed within the UK: The document must be legalised by the Foreign Office of the issuing country and subsequently legalised by the Malaysian Embassy in that country.

4. Please provide A4 prepaid self-addressed envelope with full name as per your passport and complete UK residential address.

5. Fees:

i. £3.00 — Renunciation fee. 

ii. £5.00 — Per legalisation.

6. Processing Time:

The acknowledgment letter will be sent out to applicant at least four (4) weeks after submission of complete documents. Application will be sent to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN), Malaysia for processing and approval.
