BETWEEN MALAYSIA AND THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

YB Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 17th Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) between Malaysia and the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia on 4 June 2026. He will be accompanied by senior government officials of related agencies.
The JCBC will be co-chaired by YB Foreign Minister and his Indonesian counterpart, His Excellency Sugiono. Against the backdrop of mounting global supply chain disruption, the 17th JCBC will give priority attention to deepening Malaysia–Indonesia economic cooperation to safeguard the resilience of both economies. Malaysia will steer the discussion towards concrete measures by which the two countries can work together to mitigate external shocks affecting trade flows, energy security, food supplies, and critical inputs to industry. The meeting will also follow up on the decisions made by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the 13th Annual Consultation held in Jakarta on 29 July 2025. A Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) was held prior to the Ministerial Meeting.
Reflecting the priority placed on bilateral measures to address global supply chain disruption, the agenda will give particular emphasis to trade and investment facilitation, strengthening cross-border supply linkages, energy cooperation, and food security. Other areas expected to be discussed include maritime boundary delimitation and land boundary demarcation, border crossings and cross-border trade, cooperations in halal industry; defence and security; environmental and disaster management; as well as other matters of mutual interest.
The 17th JCBC will be a follow-up to the 13th Annual Consultation between the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the President of the Republic of Indonesia held in Jakarta on 29 July 2025 and will set the direction for the 14th Annual Consultation to be hosted by Malaysia later this year.
