MALAYSIA RE-ELECTED FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE GOVERNING COUNCILS
OF THE CENTRE FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION
(CSAM) FOR THE TERM 2025-2028 AND STATISTICAL INSTITUTE FOR ASIA
AND THE PACIFIC (SIAP) FOR THE TERM 2025-2027
Malaysia has been successfully re-elected to two Governing Councils under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), namely the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) and the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP).
The elections were held during the 81st Session of the UNESCAP on 22 April 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. Malaysia is one of eight countries elected for memberships to these two councils.
Malaysia, represented by the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), was re-elected to the CSAM Governing Council for the 2025–2028 term. CSAM plays an important role in promoting technical cooperation among UNESCAP members and associate members. It facilitates the exchange of knowledge, research collaboration, and agri-business development in the field of sustainable agricultural mechanization. Malaysia has served on the CSAM Governing Council for two consecutive terms, from 2018–2022 and 2022–2025.
For SIAP, Malaysia, represented by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), was re-elected for the 2025–2027 term. SIAP strengthens the statistical capacity of countries in the Asia-Pacific region, supporting the collection, dissemination, and analysis of data to inform economic and social development. Malaysia previously served on SIAP’s Governing Council for the 2010–2012 and 2022–2024 terms, and is a founding member of the institute since its establishment in 1970.
Malaysia remains steadfast in its support for the work of both CSAM and SIAP, and will continue to actively participate in and contribute to the strengthening of their respective roles.
