Malaysia won 12 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals at 36th International Invention Show (INOVA) 2011 in Zagreb, Croatia, said a statement by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). The team led by UniMAP comprised Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuching Sarawak, Sekolah Menengah Teknik Telok Intan, Perak and Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Syed Putra, Perlis.
UniMAP Assoc Prof Dr Hazry Desa won Best International Inventor Award for his "e-SAVE: Easy Sprayer Aerial Vehicle", while also won the gold medal. The product targeted at farmers uses sensor technology to facilitate the spraying of pesticides, fertilisers and watering of plants.
UniMAP researchers contributed 8 gold, UMP 2 gold medals while Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuching and Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Syed Putra contributed 1 gold medal each. Meanwhile, UniMAP Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Kamarudin Husin said the success was a good start for UniMAP which was making its debut in the prestigious event. UniMAP entered seven research products by lecturers and eight research products by ENVEX Young Researcher Club (EYReC), a group of young researchers among its students. "UniMAP achieved 100 percent success in the lecturers category with 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze while young researchers from EYReC contribute 4 gold and 1 silver," he said.
The other gold medal winners were Prof Dr Syed Alwee Al-Junid (Modified Double Weight (MDW) Code For OCDMA FTTH Using FPGA-Based), Assoc Prof Che Mohd Ruzaidi Ghazali (RP Fibre-Recycled Plastic Fibre) and Mohd Mustafa Al-Bakri Abdullah (A Novel Green Cement).
