The abovementioned MOU was signed on 15 June 2011 by Prof. Aleksa Bjeliš, PH.D., Rector of the University of Zagreb at the Rector’s Office, Central University Rectorate, Zagreb. Her Excellency Ambassador Aminahtun Karim Shaharudin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to the Republic of Croatia was in attendance to witness the signing ceremony. Others present were senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia, Ministry of Science, Education and Sports and members of the media. This MOU was the first-ever signed between two institutions of higher learning of both countries and bodes well for more such collaboration between Malaysian and Croatian academic institutions. This cooperative venture also signifies closer bilateral relations between Malaysia and Croatia in the field of education.
Prior to this, the MOU was signed in Kuala Lumpur by Dr. Ghauth Jasmon, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malaya at the Vice- Chancellor’s office on 26 May 2011. The ceremony was witnessed by His Excellency Ambassador Željko Bošnjak, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia to Malaysia.
