The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), Mr. Peter Szijjarto hosted an Iftar for the Muslim Ambassadors residing in Budapest on 16 July 2014. The unprecedented reception took place at the MFA Building and was well attended by about 20 Ambassadors from the OIC member countries. The Iftar began at 8.40 pm with brief welcoming remarks by Mr. Szijjarto. In his speech, Mr. Szijjarto said the Iftar was a testimony of Hungary's deep respect for the Quran which was revealed in the holy month of Ramadhan and also to reflect Hungary's strong affirmations on the importance of promoting cultural understanding. The Ambassador of Algeria in his capacity as the Dean of the OIC member countries gave a return speech to thank the MFAT for hosting the Iftar.
