On 20 April 2026, Mr. Norafizan Mustaffa, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Malaysia in Budapest, undertook a working visit to the University of Debrecen to explore strategic academic partnerships. During the visit, he held a productive discussion with Prof. Dr. Károly Pető, General Vice Rector of the University, which was also attended by Dr. Okszana Kiszil, Director for Coordination and Strategic Affairs, and Ms. Nor Afzan Jemburi, Second Secretary of the Embassy.

Both sides deliberated on potential collaborations across several high-impact disciplines, specifically in medical and pharmaceutical sciences, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and bio-engineering. The discussion focused on establishing a robust framework for joint research initiatives, co-authorship in academic publications, and the exchange of staff and researchers, reflecting a mutual commitment to elevating educational diplomacy and innovation between Malaysia and Hungary.
The visit to Debrecen concluded with a dedicated engagement session with Malaysian students, during which the CDA a.i. and the Embassy delegation provided a comprehensive consular briefing and addressed matters pertaining to student welfare.
