Lecture at Corvinus University, Budapest, 10 May 2011

On 10 May 2011, Ambassador Dato’ Kamilan Makson gave a talk on “Malaysia, Transformation from Agro-based to Advance Economy” for post graduate and Masters Program students of the Corvinus University, Budapest. The talk was at the invitation by the University wanting to learn about Malaysia’s major policy initiatives and effective economic and social development program which have successfully transformed Malaysia from an agro-based to an industrialized economy.

The majority of students who were in their final year of the Masters Program on Small and Medium Enterprises, were particularly impressed with the pivotal roles assumed by the Malaysian SMEs in the economic development of Malaysia during the financial crisis of 1997, as well as Malaysia’s ingenious home grown financial and monetary policy, the so-called “Mahathir’s recipe” in tackling the Asian financial crisis.

The students were also updated with the current economic policy and development program undertaken by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, including the New Economic Model, the Economic Transformation Program and the Government Transformation Program designed to accelerate Malaysia attain the status as a high income economy and developed nation by 2020.
