Malaysian Cultural Festival

The Embassy of Malaysia in Budapest, The Republic of Hungary, proudly shared Malaysia’s dynamic culture with senior government officials in Hungary, the Diplomatic Corp, Hungarian business community and the public, as well as with Malaysians residing or working in Hungary, during the Malaysian Cultural Festival which was held on 18 December 2008. The Festival was  the Embassy’s small yet significant effort to remind all that were present, including Malaysians in the Republic, that much could be achieved if people from different background could overcome their prejudices towards each other by learning to co-exists in harmony and integrate peacefully by learning and appreciating each other’s culture.

During the Festival, the Embassy took the opportunity to present songs by the late Allahyarham Tan Sri P. Ramlee and traditional Malaysian songs which were sung by Mr. Haris Mohamed, Malaysia’s Singing Chef, who also sang a couple of Broadway songs taken from his album. A medley of traditional dances, Pencak Silat performance, a traditional fashion show as well as a public photo gallery and DVD show on Malaysia’s development since 1957 were also presented to the guests. The guests were also delighted to savour some of Malaysia’s traditional delicacies such as rendang, nasi tomato and ayam masak merak, cookies and sweets such as dodol as well as “teh tarik” and “ais kacang”.

The Festival also saw the participation of a few of Malaysian companies such as Koperasi Usahawan Malaysia Berhad, Syarikat Magic Taste Sdn Bhd, Noraini’s Cookies Worldwide Sdn Bhd, Ita Product Sdn Bhd, Tanamera Tropical Spa Products, as well as the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) in an commendable effort  to showcase Malaysia’s products to the guests.

The Embassy would also like to thank MATRADE Budapest, Tourism Malaysia, members of the PERWAKILAN, Sharifah Maznah Syed Abdullah and Malaysians working with MODU System (M) Sdn Bhd in Budapest for their contribution to make the Festival a successful event.
