The ASEAN Ambassadors (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Phillipines, Thailand, Vietnam) in Budapest made a joint visit to Szeged University recently. They were received by the Rector of the University, Professor Gabor Szabo, who gave them a briefing on the history of the university, its achievements and its extensive faculty collaborations with foreign universities. Szeged University, established in Hungary in 1921, is home to the famous Professor Albert Szent-Gyorgyi who founded the Faculty of Sciences and received the Nobel Prize in Physiology in Medicine in 1937 for his discovery of Vitamin C. There are about 2,500 foreign students studying at Szeged University mostly in the field of medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutical and natural sciences. The ASEAN Ambassadors later had a brief tour of the University, walkabout around the city of Szeged and later visited the Hungarian National Heritage Museum.
