The new Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Muhammad V, took his oath of office on 13 December 2016. Sultan Muhammad V, from the state of Kelantan, became the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, corresponding with 60 years of Malaysia's independence.
