Malaysian Ambassador and Prof. Turki I Obaidat and Tuan Haji Sulaiman MSD Director, Amman
Malaysia and Jordan are to boast bilateral cooperation in education following a meeting between Malaysian Ambassador, Dato' Abdul Malek bin Abdul Aziz and Prof. Turki I. Obaidat, Secretary General, Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, in Amman on Tuesday,14 April 2009. The Ambassador has also recently called on presidents of major public universities in Jordan namely Jordan University of Science and Technology, Mu'ta University, Jordan University and Yarmouk University.
During his calls on the presidents of the universities, the Ambassador conveyed the Malaysian government appreciation for their support and cooperation to the Embassy and Malaysian students in that universities. The universities have agreed to consider Malaysia's request to increase the intake of Malaysian students particularly in medical and dentistry faculties. Malaysia is also expected to send more students to pursue study in Islamic economy in Jordanian universities. Presently, there are over 800 Malaysian students in Jordan and over 800 Jordanian students in Malaysian public and private universities. The number of Malaysian students studying in Jordan has increased from 300 in 2006 to over 800 in 2008 and it is expected to increase further this year following keen interest from Malaysia for more places in Jordanian public universities.
