Chairman of the Jordanian Businessmen Association Hamdi Tabba' received Wednesday ,May 13 , Ambassador of Malaysia to Jordan Abdul Malek Abdul Aziz.
In the meeting, Tabba' reviewed the economic ties between Jordan and Malaysia and the cooperation between the business sectors in both countries. The meeting also discussed means of bolstering the cooperation between Jordan and Malaysia in the economic, trade, tourism, health, education and investment fields, especially that Jordan possesses high qualifications in such sectors and has many religious and historical tourism sites.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in the banking field, especially that Jordan can benefit from the Malaysian expertise in Islamic financial services. Tabba' briefed Abdul Aziz on the investment environment in Jordan that has special features enabling it to serve as a gateway for largest Arab and international markets. Tabba' also explained the role of the JBA in enhancing the economic ties of Jordan with Arab and foreign countries through the joint businessmen councils with other countries, including Malaysia.
The Jordanian-Malaysia Joint Business Council was established to join the JBA and Malaysian Camber of Commerce and Industry in 1996. JBA has received many Malaysian businessmen delegations; the last one was headed by deputy governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia Mohamed Abdul Kadir on 13 May, 2008.
It is noteworthy that the trade exchange volume between Jordan and Malaysia is witnessing continuous rise, where the Jordanian exports to Malaysia in 2008 included phosphates and fertilizers and amounted to JD62 million, while Jordan imported JD84.1 million in vegetable oils, wood, aluminum and electrical appliances and tools.
