FOOD DONATION TO KIBRA CONSTITUENCY
Following a courtesy call by Kibra Member of Parliament Hon. Kenneth Okoth to Malaysian High Commissioner on the 25th November, 2013 seeking for networking and collaboration to improve the livelihoods of the people of Kibra. We are happy to mention that the outcome of that meeting has been fruitful. The High Commissioner and First Secretary of the Malaysian High Commission on 9th December 2013 visited Kibra slum and came with variety of food donations to vulnerable households in Kibra.
This donation was informed by the previous meeting between the area MP and the ambassador, where the two agreed that there is need to support poor families during this festive season. During his visit to Kibra the Malaysian High Commissioner brought with him donations of food items such as cooking oil, wheat flour, maize flour, rice and tea leaves.
The donation of these food items was presided by Hon. Kenneth Okoth and the Malaysian High Commissioner to Kenya. The ambassador mentioned that his office will closely work with the MP of Kibra to ensure that some of the needs of the people of Kibra are met. He acknowledged that the needs Kibra residents are many and government effort alone is not enough, he therefore, called for networking and collaboration among like- minded actors in order to achieve larger impact.
The area Member of Parliament Hon. Kenneth Okoth is very grateful and appreciates the compassion shown by the Malaysian High Commission to Kenya to the people of Kibra. He added that his office is open for partnership with like-minded actors to ensure that the people of Kibra live in a dignified and meaningful life. The support received the Malaysian Embassy; he added will go a long way in putting a smile to the affected families’ faces especially during this festive season.
