Dato' Adnan Haji Othman, Malaysian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia joined some 255 Malaysians residing and working in Cambodia to countdown the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia in Sunway Hotel, Phnom Penh last night 30 August 2007.
The "50th Merdeka Day Celebration" was jointly organized by the Embassy of Malaysia to Cambodia and the Malaysian Business Council of Cambodia (MBCC). The supper reception began at 9.30 p.m. with speeches by Mr. Teh Sing, President of MBCC followed by Dato' Adnan Haji Othman. Guests were treated to Nasi Lemak and Laksa Penang prepared by PERWAKILAN Phnom Penh and also Roti Canai and Char Koay Teow prepared by Malaysian owned restaurants Mamak's Corner and Café Malaya while waiting for the 12 o'clock countdown at the Dataran Merdeka which was followed on a big screen.
At the stroke of midnight from the bell of the clock tower of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, guests sang in unison the "Negara Ku" and in patriotic spirit shouted "Merdeka" seven times. The reception ended at 11.30 pm local Cambodian time.
