On 4 October 2023, H.E. Datuk Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim paid a courtesy call on H.E. Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the current level and prospects of tourism cooperation between Malaysia and Cambodia, and how to further strengthen tourism cooperation and promote greater people-to-people linkages between the two countries, including exploring new possibilities in promoting Muslim-friendly tourism, medical tourism, training, and digitalization tourism. On top of that, H.E. Datuk Eldeen proposed that both countries could benefit if Cambodia can consider to have dedicated halal tourism centre that houses all the unique attractions for Muslims or tourists from Muslim majority countries to have access to Cambodia’s minority Champ’s community sites, halal food, and products. H.E. Datuk Eldeen also wishes for Malaysia and Cambodia to work in materializing ‘two countries, one destination’ so that both could benefit from tourists who come to Malaysia from Europe and the Middle East, and be packaged together with Cambodia and/or another third country. Both sides expressed their willingness to enhance collaboration for the benefit of the tourism industry of both countries in the future.
