On 2 December 2010, Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Hj Abdul Razak visited Phnom Penh for a 2-Day Working Visit. He was accompanied by his wife Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor, Foreign Minister Dato’ Sri Anifah Hj Aman and wife Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary General Datuk Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahman.
YAB Dato’ Sri Najib was invited by Prime Minister Hun Sen to deliver a keynote address at the 6th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) on 3 December 2010. YAB PM subsequently concluded his visit to the Kingdom with the officiating of the New Embassy of Malaysia Complex in Phnom Penh.
The new Embassy complex signifies strong Malaysian presence in Cambodia and is among the modern landmarks that are fast changing the urban landscape of Phnom Penh. The complex was built on a piece of land in between Bassac River and Norodom Boulevard with a total area of 13,968 square meters at the total cost of RM86million. The Government of Malaysia acquired the land in 2002 and it took contractor Pembinaan Daya Tekad (PDT) Sdn. Bhd. approximately two years to build the complex from 2008 until its completion in October 2010.
In his officiating speech, YAB PM expressed his delight that the construction of the complex has been completed on time and on budget. Earlier on during his opening speech, Ambassador Datuk Pengiran Hj Mohd Hussein Datuk Pengiran Hj Mohd Tahir Nasruddin has noted that the momentum of the incoming investments from Malaysia into Cambodia had increased drastically after YAB PM’s first official visit to the Kingdom in May 2010.
