ASEAN Committee in Kuwait (ACK) Inaugural Sportfest and Family Gathering 2011 on 25-26 November 2011

The ASEAN Committee in Kuwait (ACK) held its inaugural Sportfest and Family Gathering on 25 - 26 November 2011.  The ACK was established in May 2011.

On 25 November 2011, a shooting competition was held at the National Shooting Ranges in Subhan, Kuwait. Home Based Staff (HBS) of all the nine embassies resident in Kuwait competed in the 9mm caliber Beretta pistol and .22Hornet caliber CZ rifle events. Singapore does not have a resident embassy in Kuwait. The results were as follows:

Champion - The Philippines

1^st Runner-Up - Thailand

2^nd Runner-Up - Laos

.22Hornet CZ rifle:

Champion - The Philippines

1^st Runner-Up - Brunei Darussalam

2^nd Runner-Up - Indonesia

On 26 November 2011, Home Based Staff of all the nine embassies resident in Kuwait competed in a bowling competition held at the Kuwait Hunting and Equestrian Club in Thajij Al-Ahmadi, Kuwait. The results were as follows:

Bowling (Best of Two Games):

Champion - The Philippines

1^st Runner-Up - Indonesia

2^nd Runner-Up - Brunei Darussalam

Immediately after the bowling competition, the prize giving ceremony was held followed by the Handing Over Ceremony of the Chairmanship of ACK. Current ACK Chairman Ambassador Ferry Adamhar handed over the ASEAN flag to new ACK Chairman Ambassador Long Kem of Cambodia.

After the formal ceremonies, all the ASEAN Heads of Mission and their HBS enjoyed each other’s traditional food prepared by their respective embassies including Kelupis (Brunei), Nasi Tumpang (Indonesia) and Nasi Lemak (Malaysia). All guests were entertained by singing and cultural performances by HBS of Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

The Sportfest and Family Gathering was a success and reflected the spirit of cooperation and solidarity amongst the ASEAN embassies in organizing the events. The overwhelming participation of all the embassies’ staff and family reflected the strong bond of friendship of the ASEAN Community in Kuwait. The events were covered by members of the local print media.
