Tourism Malaysia’s Sales Mission to Sri Lanka, 10 March 2014
As part of the on-going promotion of the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY 2014) which aims to attract 28 million tourist arrivals, Tourism Malaysia has undertaken a Sales Mission to Colombo, Sri Lanka on 10 March 2014. The island country was the first leg of Tourism Malaysia’s mission to five destinations in South Asia, which signifies the importance that Malaysia places on the Sri Lankan tourism market.
The mission was led by YBhg. Dato’ Azizan Noordin, Deputy Director General Planning. He was accompanied by Senior Officials from Tourism Malaysia and a delegation of 25 major Malaysian tour operators. The programme of the one-day mission included an interactive session with the Presidents of the Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL) and IATA Agents Association of Sri Lanka, Travel Mart, media briefing for the local media and travel writers. The finale of the day was the VMY2014 Cultural Evening which was held at the Kingsbury Hotel where invited guests were entertained by cultural performers from Istana Budaya.
H.E. Azmi Zainuddin, High Comissioner of Malaysia graced the Cultural Evening as the Guest of Honour. In his remarks at the event, the High Commissioner outlined the attractiveness and diversity of the tourism products that Malaysia offers as a Truly Asian destination and welcomed more Sri Lankans to visit the country. He also encouraged the tourism authorities and establishments of both countries to further enhance their collaboration in tourism sector.
