ADVISE ON A(H1N1) INFLUENZA
FOR MALAYSIAN RESIDENTS AND TRAVELLERS TO MEXICO AND THE CENTRAL AMERICAN COUNTRIES
The Embassy of Malaysia reiterates that on Thursday 21st May 2009, the Government of the City of Mexico has lifted all public preventive measures instituted since 23rd April 2009 to contain the spread of A(H1N1) influenza in Mexico City.
Public places in Mexico City and Mexico such as restaurants, cinemas, sports centres, theatres, schools, museums are now fully opened.
To be informed of possible outbreak or resurfacing of the A(H1N1) influenza in countries one is living in or traveling to, Malaysian residents and those planning to travel to other countries are recommended the following:
1. Obtain the latest information on A(H1N1) influenza prior to departure to any country with reported cases of A(H1N1) influenza from the World Health Organisation website or the Embassy/High Commission/Consulate General offices of Malaysia in the country you are living in or traveling to.
Recommended Personal Preventive Measures
2. Consult a physician for the seasonal flu vaccination, should travel to an A(H1N1) influenza affected area be necessary prior to departure to the intended country.
3. Adhere to the local health advise and guidelines of countries with reported A(H1N1) influenza cases, including preventive measures and other recommendations issued by the relevant authorities of those countries.
4. Use facial masks to protect oneself from possible infection in areas with reported A(H1N1) influenza cases as recommended by the government and health authorities by the countries concerned.
5. Ensure personal hygiene with the regular use of detergent and water or alcohol based hand gel to wash hands.
6. Avoid close physical contacts with other persons, crowds or crowded places in areas with reported A(H1N1) cases.
7. Avoid contacts with persons infected by A(H1N1) influenza or those with influenza-like symptoms, including high fever, coughing, runny nose, sneezing, sore muscles, headache, diarrhea, respiratory problems.
8. Contact the local health authority when influenza- like illness is suspected in oneself, as well as to the Embassy/High Commission/Consulate General Offices of Malaysia in the country you are living in or traveling.
9. Malaysian travelers are advised to inform the Embassy/High Commission/Consulate General offices of Malaysia on their temporary address and contact in the aforementioned countries by telephone or e-mail to the Embassy and to state:
(a) Full name
(b) Purpose of visit
(c) Number of days staying
(d) Place of stay, full address and contact number
10. Malaysian residents in, as well as Malaysian travelers to Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama are to contact the Embassy of Malaysia in Mexico City for relevant consular advise or assistance as follows:
