APPOINTMENT OF NEW HEADS OF MISSION OF MALAYSIA
Seven (7) new Heads of Mission of Malaysia received their Letters of Credence from Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at Istana Negara on Thursday, 17 March 2016. The Presentation of Letters of Credence Ceremony was also attended by YB Dato’ Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and YBhg. Dato’ Ho May Yong, Deputy Secretary General for Multilateral Affairs. The new Heads of Mission are as follows:
Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to Holy See
Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok had held several portfolios of Cabinet Ministers both at the levels of State and Federal government prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Holy See. He was the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities from 2008 to 2013 and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department from 1994 to 1995 and from 1999 to 2008. He was also appointed as the Chief Minister of Sabah from 1998 to 1999.
Tan Sri Bernard served as the Chairman of Institute for Indigenous Economic Development (Sabah) from 1994 to 2003 prior to becoming the Advisor for that institute from 2005 until today, Chairman of Montfort Youth Training Center from 1999 until today, Chairman of Borneo Conservation Trust from 2014 until today and Chairman of Penampang Community College, Sabah from 2014 to 2016.
Tan Sri Bernard had also served as Sabah Finance Minister from 1985 to 1990, Minister at the Ministry of Plantation and Fisheries, Sabah from 1990 to 1992 and Minister at the Ministry of Tourism dan Environment from 1995 to 1998.
Dato’ Sri Hasan Malek
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to Cambodia
Dato’ Sri Hasan Malek had assumed several Ministerial and Deputy Ministerial portfolios at the level of Federal Government. The last position that he held prior to the appointment as Ambassador of Malaysia to Cambodia was the Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism from 2013 to 2015.
He was the Member of Parliament for Kuala Pilah since 2004 and had served as the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department from 2008 to 2009 and Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development from 2009 to 2013.
Dato’ Sri Hasan Malek was also a member of the State Legislative Assembly for Juasseh, Negeri Sembilan from 1995 to 2004.
Dato’ Ilango Karuppannan
High Commissioner-designate of Malaysia to Singapore
Dato’ Ilango Karuppannan started his service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988. He was the Undersecretary for Europe Division since 2014 prior to his appointment as High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore.
He was previously the Ambassador of Malaysia to Lebanon from 2010 to 2014, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C. from 2006 to 2010 and Charge d’affaires at the Embassy of Malaysia in Conakry, Guinea from 1997 to 2001.
Dato’ Ilango had also served as First Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany from 1994 to 1997.
Mr. Wan Zaidi bin Wan Abdullah
High Commissioner-designate of Malaysia to Sri Lanka
Mr. Wan Zaidi bin Wan Abdullah started his service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. Prior to his appointment as High Commissioner of Malaysia to Sri Lanka, he was the Deputy Head of the Logistics Secretariat for ASEAN 2015.
He was previously the Deputy High Commissioner at the High Commission of Malaysia in London, United Kingdom from 2011 to 2013 and Consul General at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai, India from 2007 to 2011.
Mr. Wan Zaidi had also served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Madrid, Spain from 1996 to 2000 and as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Tripoli, Libya from 2000 to 2003.
Mr. Shahril Effendy bin Abd Ghany
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to Oman
Mr. Shahril Effendy bin Abd Ghany started his service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador of Malaysia to Oman, he was the Undersecretary for Americas Division since 2015.
He was previously the Minister at the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C. from 2010 to 2013, Undersecretary for Regional Cooperation, Social and Culture Division from 2008 to 2010 and Director (Economic) at the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Center in Taipei from 2004 to 2008.
Mr. Shahril Effendy had also served as Second Secretary at the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations in New York, United States from 1996 to 2001.
Datuk Ayauf Bachi
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to Ukraine
Datuk Ayauf Bachi started his service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1986. He was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Peru from 2011 to 2016 prior to his appointment as Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine.
He was previously the Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Department of Protocol and Consular from 2010 to 2011, Undersecretary of Consular Division from 2008 to 2010 and Consul General at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Kunming, People’s Republic of China from 2004 to 2008.
Datuk Ayauf had also served as Trade Commissioner of Malaysia at the MATRADE Office in Beijing from 1994 to 1999 when he was with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
Dato’ Ahmad Fadil bin Shamsuddin
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to Poland
Dato’ Ahmad Fadil bin Shamsuddin started his service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador of Malaysia to Poland, he was the Consul General at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 2011 to 2016.
He was previously the Counsellor at the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra, Australia from 2007 to 2010 and Special Officer to the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2007.
Dato’ Ahmad Fadil had also served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Santiago, Chile from 1998 to 2001 and Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Havana, Cuba from 2001 to 2004.
