ASEAN CULTURAL WEEK

In collaboration with the Mexican Senate, the 5 ASEAN Embassies based in Mexico City organized the ASEAN Cultural Week at the Senate of the Republic of Mexico in Mexico City from 27-30 October 2015.  During the event, guests were treated with photos exhibition, cultural performances, gastronomic sampling, workshops and conferences on each ASEAN countries.

Senator Teofilo Torres Corzo, Senator of the LXII Legislature of the Mexican Congress representing San Luis Potosí officiated this event. Around 250 people representing diplomatic corps, university student and general public attended the 4-days event. During the opening ceremony,  a group of eight dancers from the University of Ixtlahuaca CUI, from Mexico State, represented Malaysia by performing two Malay traditional dances.

On the first day, Ambassador Mohammad Azhar Mazlan together with the four other ASEAN´s ambassadors to Mexico gave a talk at a conference on the ASEAN.

On the second day of activities, Mr. Khornelisman Jasri, Second Secretary of the Embassy, presented a talk on Malaysia covering topics such as culture, education, religion, business opportunities in Malaysia.  Other ASEAN member countries presented their countries in a different way such as cooking and martial arts demonstrations. About 150 students from the National University of Mexico and the National Polytechnic Institute of International Relations and Social Science degrees attended the second day program.  This program was also covered by the National Senate TV channel which broadcasted nationwide.
