STATEMENT : OIC ANNUAL COORDINATION MEETING

STATEMENT BY H.E. FOREIGN MINISTER OF MALAYSIA

Mr. Chairman,

Mr. Secretary-General,

Excellencies,

Assalamua’laikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

For almost a year, we have witnessed the horrific, brutal and heinous acts of genocide by the Zionist regime in Gaza. It is mind-boggling to see how the world has failed to stop these atrocities and save innocent lives of Palestinians.

2. The Israeli regime is mocking us. Israel’s impunity has emboldened them to expand their act of terror beyond Gaza, beyond Palestine, and now into Lebanon. These acts resulted in further loss of life and devastation. All because no one succeeded in stopping Israel.

3. Israel’s atrocities must be halted immediately. We call for a permanent ceasefire. We must exhaust all possible efforts for Palestinians to achieve their inalienable rights, including their right to self-determination and the admission of Palestine as a full member of the UN.

4. Malaysia welcomes the adoption of the 17 September UNGA Resolution 10/24 that calls for swift implementation of the ICJ’s ruling, demanding Israel to end its illegal occupation.

5. We urge the international community to implement this Resolution in its entirety and expeditiously to ensure justice is achieved for the Palestinians.

6. The worrying rise of Islamophobia demands us to increase our efforts in addressing and countering the false narratives of Islam.

7. Recent incidents in Western countries are proof of how misinformation and disinformation exacerbate Islamophobia.

8. Malaysia welcomes the appointment of the OIC Special Envoy on Islamophobia and stands ready to actively support their efforts in combating prejudice and discrimination against Muslims.

9. Malaysia attaches great importance to the plight of Muslim minorities globally and denounces all forms of oppression against them.

10. Turning to the situation in Myanmar, as the incoming Chair of ASEAN, Malaysia will continue to support efforts to create conducive conditions that facilitate the Rohingya’s voluntary, safe and dignified return to the Rakhine State.

11. While we thank Member States for their contribution to the OIC humanitarian fund for the Rohingya, we urge other Member States to do the same to ensure a successful ICJ’s proceedings.

12. To conclude, allow me to reiterate Malaysia’s firm commitment and support to the OIC in promoting peace, security, development, and well-being of the Ummah.
