Strengthening Malaysia–Russia Ties at the Highest Level

On 14 May 2025, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim held a restricted meeting with the President of the Russian Federation, H.E. Vladimir Putin, during his official visit to Moscow. The meeting marked a significant milestone in Malaysia-Russia relations, underscoring both nations’ commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of areas including economic collaboration, science, technology and innovation, higher education, agriculture, the halal industry, culture, tourism, defence, and security. Their exchange highlighted the growing potential for mutual growth and partnership.

In addition, Prime Minister Anwar and President Putin exchanged views on pressing regional and international developments, including ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations, BRICS, the Strategic Vision Group, the Russia-Ukraine Peace Deal, and the situation in Palestine. These conversations reflect a shared desire to contribute meaningfully to peace, stability, and sustainable development at the global level.
