INTRODUCTION
Malaysia will be hosting the 5th ASEAN Para Games, the parallel sports event for the Southeast Asia Games (SEA Games) (KL09) in Kuala Lumpur from 15th to 19th August 2009.
This is the second time Malaysia is hosting the game. The first was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2001.
The biannual multisport event this year themed "ASEAN Moving Together? will be participated by more than 1,200 athletes and officials from 10 ASEAN countries, and also Timor Leste, which has been invited to take part in the Para Games.
The KL09's opening ceremony will be held at Putra Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on 15th August.
A total of eleven sports are offered -- Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Table Tennis, Powerlifting, Chess, Tenpin Bowling, Sailing, Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball and Sitting Volleyball.
The Games venues are located in several locations. Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Chess and Powerlifting will be held at Bukit Jalil, Tenpin Bowling at Mega Lanes, Endah Parade Sri Petaling, Table Tennis at OCM Indoor Sports Arena, Jalan Hang Jebat, Wheelchair Tennis at Tennis Complex, Jalan Duta, Sitting Volleyball at Titiwangsa Stadium, Wheelchair Basketball at Juara Stadium, Bukit Kiara and Sailing at Admiral Marina & Leisure Club, Port Dickson.
For the KL09, the mouse deer, a native animal of Malaysia has been chosen as the Games' mascot named Ujang.
The mouse deer or better known as Sang Kancil, is part of the Malaysian folklore. Despite being weak and small, Sang Kancil uses its intelligence to triumph over beings more powerful than itself. Thus it epitomizes the true Paralympic spirit.
BACKGROUND
The 1st ASEAN Para Games, held in Kuala Lumpur from 25th to 30th October 2001, was the initial major sports event of the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF).
The APSF was conceived at the special meeting of the National Paralympic Committees of the ASEAN countries during the 10th Malaysian Paralympic and the ASEAN Cities Invitational. The APSF now is recognized as a Civil Society Organization (CSO) by ASEAN government.
The ASEAN Para Games, which is participated by athletes with physical disabilities, was patterned after the Paralympics and the Far East and South Pacific Games (FESPIC Games).
The 2nd ASEAN Para Games was held in Hanoi, Vietnam (19-27 December, 2003). The 3rd ASEAN Para Games was held in Manila, Philippines (14-20 December, 2005), and the 4th ASEAN Para Games was held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand (20-26January2008).
The Games was held with the hope that it will promote friendship and solidarity among persons with disabilities in the ASEAN region through sports.
It also hopes to promote and develop sports for the differently abled, besides to rehabilitate and integrate persons with disability into mainstream society through sports.
ACCREDITATION
Accreditation is required for journalists/photographers/broadcasters covering the KL?09, 5th ASEAN Para Games. Please apply for an application form for accreditation to cover the games from BERNAMA Media Relations & Event Management at email address: mediasec@bernama.com or mrem@bernama.com
Each media organisation is requested to appoint a representative to co-ordinate accreditation and accommodation arrangements for its team members. Please duplicate the forms if more are required.
Accreditation is available to representatives of recognised media organisations assigned to cover the KL?09, 5th ASEAN Para Games. Media representatives should provide a letter of assignment endorsed by their respective agencies together with their application.

ENTRY FORMALITIES
Visitors must have national passports or other internationally recognised travel documents, endorsed for travelling to Malaysia and must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond the dates of their stay in Malaysia. Please be informed that nationals from certain countries may require appropriate visas to enter Malaysia. These can be verified from the nearest Malaysian Diplomatic Mission or kindly log on to http://www.mfa.gov.my.
All non-resident travellers are required to complete a Travellers' Declaration Form to declare the amount of foreign currency notes and travellers cheques they are carrying upon their arrival and departure.
CUSTOMS CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS
Media representatives bringing in equipment into Malaysia should complete Customs Importation Forms with detailed inventory including model and serial number of the equipment concerned.

INTRODUCCIÓN
Malasia será el país anfitrión de los Quintos Juegos Paralímpicos del ANSEA, un evento deportivo paralelo a los Juegos del Sudeste Asiático (SEA Games) en Kuala Lumpur del 15 al 19 de Agosto de 2009.
Esta es la segunda vez que Malasia es anfitrión de los juegos. La primera vez fue en Kuala Lumpur en el año 2001.
El evento deportivo se realiza cada dos años y en esta ocasión será con el tema ?El ANSEA: MOVIÉNDOSE JUNTOS?, con la participación de más de 2,100 atletas y funcionarios de los 10 países que conforman el ANSEA, así como Timor Lestes, el cual ha sido invitado para participar en los Juegos Paralímpicos.
La ceremonia de inauguración de los Juegos KL?09 se llevará a cabo en el Putra Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur el 15 de Agosto de 2009.
Un total de once deportes se ofrecerán incluyendo ? Atletismo, Natación, Badminton, Tenis de Mesa, Levantamiento de Pesas, Ajedrez, Boliche Tenpin, Velerismo, Tenis en Silla de Ruedas, Basketball en Silla de Ruedas y Voleibol.
Las sedes de los juegos serán diferentes locaciones. El Atletismo, la Natación, el Badminton, el Ajedrez y el Levantamiento de Pesas, se llevarán a cabo en Bukit Jalil; Boliche Tenpin en Mega Lanes, Endah Parade Sri Petaling; el Tenis de Mesa en la Arena Deportiva OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat; el Tenis en Silla de Ruedas en el Complejo de Tenis, Jalan Duta; el Voleibol en el Estadio Titiwangsa; el Basketball en Silla de Ruedas en el Estadio Juara, Bukit Kiara; y el Velerismo en el Admiral Marina & Leisure Club, Port Dickson.
Para los Juegos KL09, un venado ratón llamado UJANG, un animal nativo de Malasia ha sido seleccionado como la mascota oficial.
El venado ratón se conoce en Malasia como Sang Kancil, y es parte del folklore de Malasia. A pesar de ser débil y pequeño, Sang Kancil utiliza su inteligencia para triunfar sobre otros animales más poderosos. Por lo tanto sintetiza de espíritu para-olímpico.
ANTECEDENTES
Los Primeros Juegos Paralímpicos del ANSEA se llevaron a cabo en Kuala Lumpur del 25 al 30 de Octubre de 2001, y fue el primer evento organizado por la Federación de Deportes Paralímpicos del ANSEA (APSF).
El APSF se creó en una reunión especial de los Comités Paralímpicos Nacionales de los países del ANSEA durante la 10ª. Convocatoria del Comité Paralímpico de Malasia a los Países del ANSEA. El ASPF es reconocido actualmente como una Organización de la Sociedad Civil (CSO) por los gobierno del ANSEA.
Los Juegos Paralímpicos del ANSEA con la participación de atletas con incapacidades físicas, fueron creados utilizando el modelo de los Juegos del Lejano Oriente y Pacífico Sur (FESPIC Games).
Los Segundos Juegos Paralímpicos del ANSEA se llevaron a cabo en Hanoi, Vietnam (19-17 de Diciembre del 2003). Los Terceros Juegos Paralímpicos tuvieron lugar en Manila, Filipinas (14-20 de Diciembre de 2005), y los Cuartos Juegos Paralímpicos se organizaron en Nakhon Ratchasima, Tailandia (20-26 de Enero de 2008).
Los Juegos se instauraron para promover la amistad y la solidaridad entre personas con discapacidad en la región del ANSEA a través de los deportes.
También se pretende impulsar y desarrollar el deporte para las personas con capacidades diferentes, además de rehabilitar e integrar a las personas con incapacidad en la sociedad a través de los deportes.
ACREDITACIÓN
Los reporteros, fotógrafos y medios cubriendo los Juegos Paralímpicos del ANSEA KL?09 requieren de acreditación. Favor de solicitar su formato de acreditación para cubrir los juegos a: BERNAMA Media Relations & Event Management al e-mail: mediasec@bernama.com o mrem@bernama.com.
Cada medio deberá designar un representante para coordinar la acreditación y el hospedaje para su equipo. Se pueden duplicar los formatos de acreditación de ser necesario.
La acreditación está abierta a representantes de organizaciones mediáticas reconocidas designadas para cubrir los Quintos Juegos Paralímpicos del ANSEA KL?09. Los representantes de los Medios deberán exhibir una carta de designación firmada por la respectiva agencia con su solicitud de acreditación.
Se requiere que los medios extranjeros regresen su formato de acreditación con dos fotografías tamaño pasaporte a la Secretaría de Medios de los Juegos Paralímpicos del ANSEA KL?09 en la dirección detallada abajo.

REQUISITOS DE INGRESO
Los visitantes a Malasia deberán portar pasaportes u otro documento de viaje reconocido, autorizado para viajar a Malasia el cual deberá tener una validez mínima de seis meses posteriores a su estancia en Malasia. Es importante tomar nota que los visitantes de algunos países podrán requerir visas para entrar a Malasia.
