WISMA PUTRA HOLDS FIRST NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS ACTION COMMITTEE MEETING FOR 2025

On 24 April 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs convened the first session of the National Human Rights Action Committee Meeting for 2025 (1/2025) in Putrajaya.
The meeting brought together approximately 90 representatives from various Federal Ministries and Agencies, along with State Representatives from Sarawak, the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), civil society organizations (CSOs), and the business community. Notable participants included the Bar Council, Coalition of Malaysian NGOs in the UPR Process (COMANGO), Malaysian Alliance of Civil Society Organisations in the UPR Process (MACSA), and Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy (CENTHRA). Representatives from business entities such as Petronas, Maybank, CIMB Bank, FGV Holdings, Genting Berhad, and PERKESO were also present. Other organizations like Pusat KOMAS, Centre for Independent Journalism, Ed Empower, and the Association of Women with Disabilities Malaysia also participated.
This meeting served as a platform to discuss human rights issues raised at the United Nations (UN) regarding Malaysia. It also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange views on the enjoyment of human rights by Malaysians.
The National Human Rights Action Committee was established by the Cabinet in May 2024 and is tasked with ensuring the effective implementation of Malaysia’s commitments made at the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) session of the Human Rights Council, with a focus on the promotion and protection of human rights in Malaysia.
