The 8th Heads of Mission Conference (HoM) was held in Kuching, Sarawak from 26th to 28th February 2014. The conference themed "Transforming Malaysia's Diplomacy Towards 2020 and Beyond" saw the participation of 102 HoMs from Malaysian missions around the world.
The HoMs were actively engaged in various roundtable sessions which focused on areas of multilateral diplomacy geared towards addressing the need for innovative and creative ways to conduct Malaysia’s foreign policy effectively and expeditiously against the backdrop of regional and global challenges, as well as the advent of communication technology. Besides these roundtable sessions, the HoMs spent some time interacting with leaders of the Sarawak State government to be further exposed to various economic considerations and explore the roles that Malaysian missions abroad could play to increase trade and investment.
As part of the programme, a courtesy call was made to YAB Pehin Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak at the Pullman Hotel Kuching on 27th February. The Chief Minister then graciously hosted an official dinner for the visiting HoMs, replete with Sarawak cultural performance organised by the Sarawak Ministry of Social Development.
The conference in Kuching was a success allowing the HoMs to meet and discuss matters regarding regional and global multilateral diplomacy, as well as be acquainted with the latest socio – economic development in Sarawak as it aspires to achieve an equitable growth and a higher income state by year 2020.
The Sarawak Regional Office extends its best wishes to all Malaysian HoMs as they resume their duties in their missions abroad.
