Ceremony on the Transfer of the Guar Kepah Collection from the Netherlands to Malaysia, 28 August 2025
On 28 August 2025, a historic ceremony on the transfer of the Guar Kepah prehistoric human remains from the Netherlands to Malaysia was held at the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science of the Netherlands in The Hague.
The Malaysian delegation was led by YBhg. Dato' Shaharuddin bin Abu Sohot, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC); accompanied by H.E. Dato' Roseli Abdul, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Netherlands; Mr. Mohamad Muda Bahadin, Director-General of the Department of National Heritage (JWN); and officials from MOTAC, JWN, Tourism Malaysia The Hague, and the Embassy.
During the ceremony, both sides also signed the Acknowledgement of Transfer (AoT) and received a briefing on the history and significance of the Guar Kepah Collection by the Malaysian curators.
The Embassy is proud to be a part of this important milestone in the restitution of cultural heritage to Malaysia, with the Guar Kepah Collection, estimated to be over 5,000 years old, formally acknowledged for transfer to its country of origin.
