H.E. Dr Fauziah Mohamad Taib hosted a Harvest Festival Gawai / Tadau Keamatan celebration at Rumah Malaysia, Wassenaar on 26 May 2012.

The Gawai festival is traditionally celebrated in the state of Sarawak while the Tadau Keamatan festival is celebrated in the state of Sabah – both festivals mark the end of the paddy harvesting season. During these celebrations, people wear their traditional best and engage in such activities as singing and dancing to show appreciation for the good harvest.

While the Netherlands is far and away from Sabah and Sarawak, the Harvest Festival Gawai/Keamatan held at the Ambassador’s residence provided an opportunity for all Malaysians alike to gather and celebrate away from home. The event also showcased the diversity of Malaysian traditions and celebrations to the local community.
